How to enable multisig for my Stellar wallet

Stellar Network uses signatures as authorization. Transactions always need authorization from at least one public key in order to be considered valid.

Transaction signatures are created by cryptographically signing the transaction object contents with a secret key.

Multisignature (or “multisig”) concept presumes that account requires two or more secret key signatures before allowing a transaction to occur on the account.

To increase the protection level and make your Stellar wallet more secure, we recommend using LOBSTR Vault app, which is a transaction signer application for your mobile device with the local key storage.

LOBSTR Vault app is fully integrated with StellarTerm. It uses the multisignature technology of the Stellar Network, allows you to create a local signer account and verify transactions from multiple accounts on the Stellar Network.

Just in case you have doubts about whether you should use LOBSTR Vault app and enable multisig for your Stellar account, please check out this Guide, which may help you make a decision.

How to enable multisig

You will need to do the following to enable multisignature protection for your account:

1. Choose the 'Multisig' tab on the 'Account page' and click the 'Enable' button.

2. Insert the public key of the account that will co-sign the transactions and click the 'Add signer' button.

Copy the key from LOBSTR Vault or your multisig provider.

Note: If you're using LOBSTR Vault or StellarGuard as your multisig service of choice, make sure your signer public key has been recognized correctly. Under the field, there should be a corresponding marker (highlighted in red in the screenshot above).

3. Press the 'Continue' button to add the signer.

Once the multisig protection is configured, you'll be able to check your account and signer keys under the same 'Multisig' tab.

The history of your signers can be found on the 'Activity' page.
