WalletConnect: How do I log in to StellarTerm with my wallet app?

What is WalletConnect?

WalletConnect is a powerful protocol that enables phone applications to connect with other platforms using QR code scanning or deep linking. This protocol provides new ways for you to interact with your Stellar wallet, enabling you to use multiple platforms whilst keeping the signing of your wallet all in one single safe place. The LOBSTR app is a quick and easy way to access the Stellar Decentralized Exchange on your phone, while also being a simple and secure wallet. WalletConnect enables you to connect your LOBSTR app’s wallet to any desktop platform with WalletConnect support.

StellarTerm has WalletConnect log in functionality enabled. This means you can securely use StellarTerm without the need to input private keys. All the sensitive information stays directly on your mobile device within the WalletConnect-compatible application you use to connect.

Every time you make an action in your wallet, like making a payment or creating an offer, you will be asked to sign the transaction from the WalletConnect-compatible app. 

How to Log In with WalletConnect?

You can use any WalletConnect 2.0 compatible wallet that supports Stellar to log in and manage your Stellar account in StellarTerm.

For this example, we will take you through the steps to use the WalletConnect Log In option with the LOBSTR app.

1. Go to the Log In page of StellarTerm here and select the WalletConnect Log In option.

2. Once you’ve read and accepted the Terms of Use, select Log in with WalletConnect.

3. The Scan QR code pop-up will now appear. 

Next, you need to scan the displayed QR code from your LOBSTR application to connect StellarTerm with your wallet on LOBSTR.
 

4. Open the LOBSTR app on your mobile device.

If you do not yet use LOBSTR you can get the app from either the Apple or Google Play stores:

Once you have the LOBSTR app, you will need to either sign up or log in to your LOBSTR account. If you’re a new user to LOBSTR you can create a new Stellar wallet or connecting one you already use to your account.

5. Navigate to the menu ≡ icon in the top left corner, click Settings, then choose WalletConnect from the menu.

6. Click the 'New Connection button' to open up the camera and scan the QR code given to you by StellarTerm.

Note: you can use a universal QR code scanner available at the Home screen to scan the code and open the WalletConnect section directly to establish a new connection.

7. Confirm the connection in LOBSTR app

You will now see a Cancel/Confirm notification on the LOBSTR app. If you press Cancel the connection will be canceled. If you press Confirm then StellarTerm will log in with your Stellar wallet from LOBSTR.

You are now logged with your Stellar wallet from the LOBSTR app.

From here you can now use StellarTerm the same way as any other log in option. Every time you make an action in your wallet, like making a payment or creating an offer, you will now be asked to confirm the transaction in the LOBSTR app. This means your private key stays safely in your LOBSTR app, without the need for it to be put directly into StellarTerm. 

By confirming the transaction in LOBSTR app, you sign this transaction using the secret key of your Stellar wallet from the LOBSTR app.
