The Stellar network requires all Stellar accounts to maintain a minimum balance of lumens. Minimum balances help protect the network from spam account creation.
The absolute minimum balance for every active Stellar account is 1 XLM, therefore when making a transaction you should make sure to leave at least 1 lumen in your account.
Each entry such as accepted asset, trading offer or account signer, increases your minimum balance by 0.5 XLM.
If you don't meet the minimum balance requirement, you won't be able to perform outgoing transactions, accept assets, set up signers, or create/cancel trade offers.
With reference to the Stellar Network protocol, when creating an offer for sale, the funds involved in the offer are postponed to the reserved balance and cannot be used until the order is canceled or executed.
Additionally, StellarTerm enforces an extra 0.5 XLM reserve in an attempt to make sure your account can still make transactions without going below the network minimum balance requirements.
Example:
Let's suppose that you have 15 trustlines and 2 signers, then the total reserved balance equals 10 lumens:
(0.5 XLM base reserve * 17 entries) + 1 XLM absolute min balance + 0.5 XLM extra reserve = 10 XLM total reserve.
To check out your reserved balance on StellarTerm, please go to the 'Account' page ('Balances' tab) and scroll the page down.
If you wish to reduce your minimum balance, you can close an entry (cancel an existing offer/remove an asset), which frees up the associated base reserve.
